Counselling and Psychotherapy, Individuals and Couples, IFS, EMDR, BACP (Accred)
Hello, I’m Kate. I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist working with couples and individuals. My approach is warm, friendly and collaborative; working together with you and adapting the sessions to meet your individual needs.
My counselling style is relational and person-centred, and I believe that you will find your own solutions at your own pace given the right therapeutic conditions. My training is ‘integrative’ meaning I draw on different theories and techniques in order to support you through the therapy process and tailor the sessions to meet your individual needs.
Individuals
There are many reasons people seek therapy: maybe you are struggling with relationship difficulties, maybe you are feeling anxious or depressed, perhaps you are dealing with a significant change in life circumstances, a relationship breakdown or a bereavement. Or perhaps issues from your childhood are affecting your sense of wellbeing now. Whatever it is you are struggling with, I aim to provide a safe confidential space for you to share and explore your thoughts and feelings.
For me, the client-counsellor relationship is at the heart of the counselling process, and I base my work on developing a relationship of deep understanding, acceptance and empathy. Within this supportive, non-judgemental space, my hope is that you are able to explore your thoughts and feelings, reconnect with your inner values and sense of self enabling you to move forward and progress.
Couples
Relationship counselling offers the opportunity to enhance communication and gain a deeper understanding of your relationship patterns and dynamics. My role is to stay neutral and non-judgemental; to provide a safe and supportive space where you can talk and listen to each other openly and discuss and explore what’s happening in your relationship. It gives you the opportunity to look at how experiences from your individual past may be influencing the present and find new ways of thinking about and resolving the problems that you are experiencing.
I am experienced in working with issues around gender and sexuality, relationship diversity (polyamory, non-monogamy) and provide an LGBTQIA+ affirmative practice, welcoming clients from all backgrounds and holding awareness of oppressive social systems including class, race, ability, gender and sexuality.
I am an Accredited member of the BACP and adhere to their ethical framework and professional guidelines.
