Counsellor and Psychotherapist
Thank you for taking a look at my profile. I appreciate it can be difficult to find a counsellor who
feels best suited to your needs, so I hope the description here provides you with a sense of how
I may be able to support you. I also offer a free 15 min online or phone session where you can
find out more and see whether we might be a good fit. Just drop me a line via email or contact
me via my website www.rootedcounselling.co.uk.
I’m a relational-integrative counsellor who can provide support relating to a range of issues,
including anxiety, depression, grief, and low self-esteem, and I specialise in workplace and
relationship concerns. I’m LGBTQIA+ affirming and can offer you a non-judgmental, safe, and
supportive space to talk. Together we could work to build your self-awareness, reflect on
societal and cultural influences on your life, overcome difficulties, and recognise your strengths
and potential. But whatever you bring to therapy, I meet each client as unique and recognise
that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to working together.
I can draw on a range of theories and tools, in ways that best support your individual needs.
These include relational psychotherapy, which recognises the importance of relationships to
our sense of wellbeing. Within this, I draw on Psychodynamic and Gestalt approaches because I
believe that our ways of being can be understood by exploring our past experiences, as well as
the ways we feel ‘in the here and now’. I borrow from Narrative therapy with respect to my
view that ‘the person is not the problem, the problem is the problem’. Narrative therapy
emphasises that the stories we develop about ourselves are not about us alone, and there is
also the possibility of re-authoring our stories if there are parts we feel are problematic.
I also use aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support clients who may be
struggling with difficult experiences and to help manage negative feelings and thoughts. This
approach allows the exploration of language and its influence on the ways we understand
ourselves in the context of wider society. Using tools from ACT, I can provide ways to help
clients identify their values, sense of self, or goals they wish to commit to.
Together these approaches also provide room for creativity in our work, such as drawing and
writing, if this feels helpful. I provide a range of materials in the therapy room for you to use as
you wish.
Fees: Sessions are £55
